Recently I had the honor of being a guest on Adventure Cycling’s Dynamo Jenny Podcast. The groundbreaking six episode series is, in ACA’s words, “a podcast about women, bikes, and taking up space in America.” I highly recommend you check it out!
My story may in fact be the least inspirational of them all! Yes, I’m a woman who travels solo on my bike, but I’m a straight, cis-gendered, white woman from an upper-middle-class background which makes me a “standard issue” cyclist in every other way.
Still, because of my gender I do know the exaggerated feeling of vulnerability that comes with showing up on a bike far from home. I whole-heartedly support and applaud those – like many of the other women featured on Dynamo Jenny – who face even bigger obstacles when they explore by bike.
If you’d like to hear some beautiful stories and very high-quality podcast production (they even made me sound good!), check out the full podcast series here.
My own segment, in which I talk about “racing” 3500 miles across the US in Bike Nonstop, is part of episode 5.
