Dynamo Jenny Podcast: Inspirational Female Cyclists

Recently I had the honor of being a guest on Adventure Cycling’s Dynamo Jenny Podcast. The groundbreaking six episode series is, in ACA’s words, “a podcast about women, bikes, and taking up space in America.” I highly recommend you check it out!

My story may in fact be the least inspirational of them all! Yes, I’m a woman who travels solo on my bike, but I’m a straight, cis-gendered, white woman from an upper-middle-class background which makes me a “standard issue” cyclist in every other way.

Still, because of my gender I do know the exaggerated feeling of vulnerability that comes with showing up on a bike far from home. I whole-heartedly support and applaud those – like many of the other women featured on Dynamo Jenny – who face even bigger obstacles when they explore by bike.

If you’d like to hear some beautiful stories and very high-quality podcast production (they even made me sound good!), check out the full podcast series here.

My own segment, in which I talk about “racing” 3500 miles across the US in Bike Nonstop, is part of episode 5.

About the Author

Hi there, I’m Alissa. I’ve biked over 12,000 miles (enough to stop counting) in nine countries and still haven’t kicked the bike travel bug. Pavement and panniers or singletrack and seat bag, I love it all. On my bike I feel free. Learn more or say hi.
